ABBOTT METHODIST CHURCH
JULY 2026 NEWSLETTER
This July, Abbott Methodist Church marks a tremendous milestone — 20 years of faithful ministry, community, and fellowship in Abbott, Texas. Over the past two decades, our congregation has grown in faith, in love, and in service to one another and to our neighbors.
In 2006, Abbott Methodist Church was scheduled to be closed and sold. Membership had dropped to just a handful, and the conference had already made its decision. But God had other plans — and He worked through two people who never forgot their little hometown church.
Willie and Bobbie Nelson stepped in and purchased the building, saving it from destruction and preserving it as a place of worship. Willie told Don Reed, "I bought that church, and I'm depending on you to take care of it." Their love for Abbott, their childhood memories, and their desire to keep the church alive made it possible for us to gather here today.
Because of their generosity, Abbott Methodist Church remained open, active, and ready for the next generation of believers. Our 20 year anniversary is not just a celebration of time — it is a celebration of grace, community, and the people who stepped forward to keep this church alive.
We invite all current members, former members, and friends of the church to join us for a special Anniversary Celebration on Sunday, July 5, 2026, following the morning worship service. We will head up to Still Smokin for a wonderful BBQ lunch and a time of shared stories and gratitude.

CHURCH GROUNDS & SUMMER PROJECTS
The church grounds are looking better than they have in a long time. The new grass has taken root beautifully, and the rain came at just the right moment to bring out a deep, healthy green across the entire yard.
Recently, Stephen and Jr. spent time at the church power washing the porches and sidewalks. The fresh, clean concrete has made a noticeable difference, giving the church a crisp and well cared for appearance.
